Qualifications

Dr. Barrett is exceptionally well trained in both spirituality and psychology.  She is a certified pastoral counselor, and fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (#6011).  Dr. Barrett has been a Zen minister for 14 years and was a Roman Catholic sister for 20 years.  She has her Master's Degree in theology from Loyola University in Chicago.  Dr. Barrett's Ph.D. is in clinical psychology, with specialization in pastoral care and counseling.  She has been in private practice for over 15 years, as well as counseling hundreds of people while serving as a hospice chaplain.  She teaches classes at Cal State Fullerton in Comparative Religion, "Spirituality and Aging," and "Death and Dying."  She teaches at the Zen Center of Orange County.

Scheduling

Counseling sessions are for a full 60 minutes and can usually be arranged to meet client's schedules.  The fees are $75 per session; $90 per couple.  Most insurance plans do not reimburse for pastoral counseling, but many clients prefer not to use HMO or insurance options because there is greater privacy, no paperwork, no limitation on the number or frequency of sessions, and greater emphasis on spirituality.  Clients may elect to come for a one-time session, or may come weekly, once or twice a month or "as requested."  To schedule an appointment, please contact Dr.  Barrett directly, by private email at barrett@zcoc.org or by private phone and voicemail at 949-722-7818, Ext. 2.
